Abstract

Published in 2023, by Mercado de Letras Publisher, the book Transformations of the World of Work and Worker Development: the learning individual, by Andréia Aparecida Simão, is mandatory for educators and researchers who wish to venture into the study of the transformation of the world of work and the consequences for worker training. Available in both versions printed and eBook, it has 211 pages (in the eBook), distributed in 4 chapters: Transformations of the World of Work and Management Models: Taylorism, Fordism and Toyotism; Elements of Worker Development in Brazil; Competency Training and the Learning Individual; Learning Individual and Education in the Company: Emerging Issues, in addition to the final considerations. In this work, in addition to analyzing the management models of the capitalist mode of production and the concepts of work, worker, worker development and learning Individual, the writer presents the results of a field study developed in the Brazilian context. Among the findings of this study, it was noted that Taylorism/Fordism elements persist in the company analyzed, coexisting with processes attributed to the Toyotism management model. Furthermore, the transformations occurring in the world of work generate the need for constant adjustments in companies. In this scenario, the learning individual finds himself inserted in a continuous process of searching for training compelled to “learn to learn”, producing a vicious circle that puts pressure on working conditions and the worker.
