Abstract

This article investigates the contributions of bioethics to research in education, with an emphasis on the training of individuals capable of ethically reflecting on scientific issues in their educational practices. Starting from the premise that traditional scientific education, focused predominantly on technical aspects, is insufficient to face contemporary ethical challenges, we propose an integration between ethical values and scientific knowledge in the educational process. We used the literature review method to analyze existing literature on bioethics, education, and the intersection between science and humanities. Works by renowned authors were consulted, such as Van Rensselaer Potter, Aldo Leopold, Hans Jonas, Humberto Maturana, and Edgar Morin whose reflections support the need for a new ethics that guides technological civilization. The review included academic articles, books and case studies that address the application of bioethics in the educational context and its implications for the training of scientists and professionals from different areas. Our findings indicate that bioethics, by proposing a holistic and integrative vision, promotes an interdisciplinary dialogue essential for the construction of scientific knowledge that is ethically responsible and socially relevant, including for research in education. Training based on bioethical principles not only enables individuals to critically evaluate the impacts of their actions, but also to develop an ecological and humanistic awareness. We conclude that the integration of ethical values and scientific knowledge in education is crucial to form individuals prepared to face the challenges of the 21st century with responsibility and wisdom. We recommend that educational institutions adopt and promote this approach, especially postgraduate programs in education, ensuring that education encompasses not only technical progress, but also ethical training and planetary sustainability.

Professor do Curso de Filosofia e Coordenador do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Ensino de Humanidades e Linguagens (PPGEHL), membro do Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa com Seres Humanos (CEP) e da Comissão de Ética no Uso de Animais (CEUA), na Universidade Franciscana (UFN), Santa Maria, RS.
