Abstract

Entrepreneurship is one of the factors that contributes to economic growth and corruption is a global economic phenomenon, which might generate obstacles to the development of entrepreneurial activity. This work aims to verify if corruption is an obstacle or an accelerator of entrepreneurship. To achieve this goal, panel data estimators with a fixed effect were used for a sample of 49 countries in the period from 2010 to 2014. Based on the estimates, it was verified that corruption affects the consolidated entrepreneurship and this effect is consistent only for developing countries, which meets to "grease the wheels" hypothesis.
