This study focused on evaluating the completeness of notification records for American Cutaneous Leishmaniasis (ACL) in Maranhão between 2017 and 2020, in an endemic area. The quality of health records, especially in regions with a high incidence of neglected diseases, is crucial for planning control and prevention actions. In this context, analyzing the completeness of notification forms is essential to ensure the reliability of epidemiological data and, consequently, the effectiveness of public health policies. This descriptive and quantitative study used data collected in the Regional Health System of Pinheiro - MA. The notification forms were individually analyzed and categorized into key, mandatory and essential fields, according to the SINAN filling instructions. Data analysis was performed using Excel for Windows® 2016 and SPSS 24.0 to determine completeness of records on a scale ranging from good to very low. The results indicated a predominance of good completeness in key and mandatory fields, reflecting adequacy in the collection of these data. However, the variables classified as essential presented significant rates of regular, low and very low completeness, which is considered unsatisfactory. These findings highlight the need for greater attention to the completion of these variables, since the omission of essential data can compromise the understanding of the epidemiological profile of ATL and hinder the planning of control actions. It is concluded that, although the overall completeness is satisfactory, improving data collection in essential variables is imperative to improve the quality of epidemiological surveillance in the region studied.
