Abstract

This is an integrative review that searches for qualitative studies in the literature that address the subjectivities of elderly patients with hip fractures en route to surgical treatment. The process review was based on recommendations from the Rayyan Enterprise checklist, Faster Systematic Review (“Rayyan - AI Powered Tool for Systematic Literature Reviews”, 2021). Articles published between 1976 and 2023 that carried out a qualitative study related to hip fractures in the elderly were examined. Searches took place in July 2023 in PubMed, MEDLINE, Scopus and Web of Science databases. The selection comprised three stages: search, pre-selection and inclusion of articles. The following descriptors in health sciences (DeCS) were used: (hip fracture) AND (elderly) AND (qualitative). 665 articles were identified in the databases searched through the search strategies. After reading the titles and abstracts, 12 articles were considered potentially eligible for inclusion in the study and were retrieved for full reading. After the complete reading, the 6 articles were selected by applying the established inclusion and exclusion criteria. Flowchart of the selection of studies on hip fractures in the elderly: qualitative research published between 1976 and 2023. The path to fracture treatment has proven to be a very unpleasant experience, which is made worse by the lack of information, the boredom related to the delay in treatment , due to the patient's lack of participation in decision-making and the team's insecurity.
